Role Overview

The Identity team builds the secure identity, access, and resource management foundation for customers to scale in the cloud. You will work on massively scalable, core technologies used for authentication and authorization to all services, including Amazon EC2, Amazon S3, and Amazon DynamoDB. The mission is to make it easier and safer for customers to run business workloads confidently and securely by processing large amounts of data and leveraging techniques such as machine learning and automated reasoning to help customers set appropriate access controls across all environments. The platform sustains over 750 million transactions per second.

A successful candidate is a hands-on manager with an established background in IT operations, cloud computing, or software as a service. You should be interested in delivering high-performing, reliable systems in a distributed environment and using large data collections to deliver next-generation permission experiences. This role requires a high level of ownership, accountability, and the ability to thrive in a technical space with ambiguity.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute project plans and delivery commitments; handle the day-to-day activities of the engineering team within an agile environment.
  • Staff, mentor, and grow a best-of-class engineering team.
  • Manage operations of the service as a critical system.
  • Work closely with engineers to architect and develop the best technical design and approach as a hands-on technical leader and contributor.
  • Report on the status of development, quality, operations, and system performance to management.
  • Drive the definition for new features, initiatives, or services, performing the necessary setup work to unblock the team.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience.
  • 7+ years of experience working directly within engineering teams.
  • 3+ years of experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) new and existing systems.
  • 8+ years of experience leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services.
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and live-site operations.
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy.
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring, and managing teams of software engineers to improve their skills and effectiveness.
