Lead Software Engineer

Visa’s Platform Products team builds the foundational systems that power innovation across the company. As a Lead Software Engineer, you will play a key role in shaping the next generation of Identity and Access Management (IAM) and authentication capabilities—integrating AI-native approaches into secure, global-scale systems.

This is a hands-on leadership role focused on building production-grade, AI-driven services—not prototypes. You’ll work across teams to design, scale, and operationalize modern IAM platforms that support evolving payment ecosystems.

What You’ll Do

• Lead the architecture and design of cross-platform, enterprise-scale systems
• Build and maintain secure, scalable, API-driven IAM and authentication services
• Develop AI-powered systems, including agentic workflows and RAG-based solutions
• Establish engineering best practices through code reviews and technical leadership
• Define reusable frameworks, standards, and shared platform services
• Partner with product and architecture teams to align technical solutions with business goals
• Drive operational excellence (CI/CD, monitoring, logging, and security)
• Influence technology decisions and long-term architectural direction
• Mentor engineers and help build a high-performing, inclusive team
• Contribute to GenAI initiatives that enhance developer productivity and product innovation

Basic Qualifications

• 10+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree (or 7+ years with an advanced degree, or 4+ years with a PhD)
• Hands-on experience building AI agents that execute multi-step workflows
• Experience with context management (state, memory, session handling, summarization)
• Strong knowledge of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems

Preferred Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience (or equivalent advanced degree experience)
• Strong background in distributed systems and platform engineering
• Proficiency in Java, Spring, and modern service architectures
• Experience with microservices, containerization, and API gateways
• Expertise in API design (REST, gRPC) and service communication patterns
• Familiarity with caching, system integration, and architectural trade-offs
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps, and secure software delivery
• Strong understanding of AI / Generative AI system design
• Experience in payments, identity, or security domains (nice to have)
• Experience building evaluation/monitoring frameworks for AI systems (plus)

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary Range: $173,100 – $276,800 USD (based on experience and location)
